Engine Parts — The DB9 uses Aston Martin's naturally aspirated 5.9-liter V12, producing 450hp at launch and up to 540hp in the later DB9 GT. The DB11 moved to Aston Martin's own 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12, producing 600hp, joined by a Mercedes-AMG 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. The DB12 uses that twin-turbo V8, raised to 671hp. Transmission & Drivetrain — All three cars are front-mid-engined with the gearbox mounted at the rear. The DB9 uses a six-speed Touchtronic automatic, with a six-speed manual offered on early cars, while the DB11 and DB12 use an eight-speed automatic. The DB9 arrived in 2004 as the first car built on Aston Martin's bonded aluminum VH platform, the same platform later used by the V8 Vantage, so many DB9 and Aston Martin Vantage parts share engineering. Offered as a coupe and a Volante convertible, the DB9 was updated through its life and stayed in production until 2016.

The DB11 replaced it in 2016 as the first car of Aston Martin's twin-turbo era, launching with the new 5.2-liter V12 and adding a Mercedes-AMG twin-turbo V8 in 2017.
